Por el Río del Colorado cerca ya del Gran Cañón,

By the Colorado River, near the Grand Canyon,

hubo una vez un vaquero chaparrito y barrigón;

there once was a short and chubby cowboy;

como al perro de tía Cleta la primer vez que ladró

like Aunt Cleta's dog the first time it barked,

le dieron con la cubeta como le dieron a Tom.

they hit him with the bucket just like they did to Tom.

Una vez compró un caballo burriciego y percherón

Once he bought a blind and heavy horse

pa' inscribirlo en las carreras, lo creyó muy correlón;

to register it for the races, thinking it was very fast;

y pasaron cuatro meses de acabada la función

four months passed after the function ended,

y el vaquero seguía terco y no arrancaba el percherón.

but the cowboy persisted, and the heavy horse wouldn't start.

Asaltó una diligencia y del caballo se cayó,

He robbed a stagecoach and fell off his horse,

se fugó de los cherifes y en la hacienda se escondió

He fled from the sheriffs and hid on the ranch,

y al ratito lo casaron con la nieta del patrón.

and shortly after, he married the boss's granddaughter.

At the first fight, his wife took revenge,

y al segundo le dio mate con tamaño pistolón;

and at the second, she killed him with a huge gun;

para siempre lo enterraron en medio del Gran Cañón

they buried him forever in the middle of the Grand Canyon,

y tan mala fue su suerte que el Cañón hizo explosión.

and his luck was so bad that the Canyon exploded.
