Mujer Libérate?

Fuimos esclavas de una sociedad machista,

We were slaves to a macho society,

fuimos presas de sus reglas sin poder cuestionar

captives of its rules without the power to question.

A decir que sí nos enseñaron, a ocultar lo que sentimos,

We were taught to say yes, to conceal what we feel,

siempre atentas a la casa y nada más

always attentive to the house and nothing more.

Fuimos criadas con la estúpida idea

We were raised with the stupid idea

que la mujer solamente en la cocina debe estar

that a woman should only be in the kitchen.

Y así fuimos educando a nuestras hijas

And so, we educated our daughters

para que se acostumbren a esta tonta realidad

to get used to this silly reality.

Y hasta que llegó la liberación

And then came liberation,

Y por fin llegó, la liberación?

And finally, it came, liberation?

Nos preparamos para poder trabajar,

We prepared ourselves to work,

salimos siempre a estudiar par poder mejorar

always went out to study to improve.

Competimos por un sueldo, aguantamos los acosos

We compete for a salary, endure harassment,

y las tontas cargadas de los demás

and the foolish criticisms of others.

Y cada vez tenemos más obligaciones

And each time, we have more obligations,

además del hogar que no podemos dejar

in addition to the home, which we cannot leave.

Seguimos siendo presas de la limpieza,

We remain prisoners of cleaning,

también de la belleza, el trabajo y estudiar

also of beauty, work, and studying.

Y es que hoy, la mujer de hoy,

And today, the woman of today,

carga con la de ayer y también la de mañana!

bears the burden of yesterday and also that of tomorrow!
